Media reports now say two of the three Alabama utility companies which sent workers north to assist with recovery in the wake Hurricane Sandy were not stopped by unions.
WAFF reported last night that utility crews from Huntsville, Decatur and Trinity were turned away from Seaside, New Jersey because their crews were non-union. The story was updated about 20 minutes ago to say that the Huntsville utility group now denies the claim. The Huntsville company says their crews are in Long Island, which was also reported in the earlier media stories
.
WAFF quoted Derrick Moore, one of the Decatur Utilities workers, who said they were told by crews in New Jersey that they can’t do any work there since they’re not union employees.
The Tribune has contacted Decatur Utilities for comment and the spokesperson said a statement will be released later this morning. We will update the story as more information becomes available.
