For Hewitt-Trussville Middle School football, the seventh and eighth grade teams had historic seasons. The seventh grade team won the Metro South Championship with a 7-1 record. The eighth grade team went 7-1 and finished in second place in the Metro South. This is the first time in school history both teams have done so well. For the cheerleaders, they were runners up at the North Alabama Regional and are headed to the State Championship in Orlando.
The seventh grade team finished 7-1 and won the Metro South Championship this year.
“Our team played well this season and improved weekly to meet our goals,” seventh grade head coach Scott Bromley said. “After our first loss to Bumpus, we made it a point to get focused on our season, commit to the process, and do everything with excellence. Our player’s determination, effort, and hard work paid off on the field. Our coaching staff worked hard to prepare for our opponents and implemented strategies to put our players in successful situations during competition.”
This season the seventh grade team’s mantra was “Invest, Influence, and Impact.”
“It all starts with investing our time, energy, and commitment to being successful, and then we can influence those around us and begin to provide leadership,” Bromley said. “I am proud of our team for what they accomplished this season.”
The team won their last championship in 1996, when Brandon Cox was quarterback.
The eighth grade team went 7-1 and finished second place in the Metro South.
“The team was 5-3 last year so I was very proud of them for beating two teams that beat them last year,” eighth grade head coach Tyler Marlow said. “If we can flip two games against the Metro South opponents of Bumpus and Berry it is a very good year. Every player on our team worked extremely hard and together to achieve our goals.”
This was the best finish for the team in a long time

Also, the eighth grade Hewitt-Trussville cheerleading squad has been performing well this year. The team finished second at the North Alabama Regional last weekend. They placed ahead of last year’s state and national champions.
“With football season just ending, the girls have thoroughly enjoyed cheering on the HTMS eighth grade team to such a winning season,” said coach Kayla Pigg. “Our cheerleading season is just beginning. Our squad is made up of 25 amazing young ladies who have prepared since March for this year’s competition season.”
The squad is confident heading to the State Championship, which will be held this weekend in Orlando.
