Trussville Police are investigating a robbery incident that occurred in front of Target at the Pinnacle Shopping Center Monday night.
Police say a 47-year-old female was walking through the parking lot around 6:30 p.m. when she was attacked.
“She was walking across the parking lot when two men knocked her to the ground and took her purse,” Lieutenant Jeff Bridges said.
Bridges said the incident was reported to police by a witness.
“There was an unknown witness who saw the men get into an older model Grand AM with no tag,” he said
.
Police are pursuing all angles to try to find the men, who they believe are also responsible for a similar incident that took place recently.
“We believe there could be a connection and that we are looking at the same people responsible for a similar incident,” Bridges said.
Incidents like this have been reported more frequently in the shopping center lately, and crimes of this nature are reported more frequently during the holiday shopping season.
“The holiday season, there is a spike in incidents like this,” Bridges said. “That’s why we have so many officers remaining in the areas and working to patrol the city.”
Law enforcement advises that shoppers and citizens should always be aware of their surroundings, and report any suspicious activity to the police.
“Watch the people around you, and remain in the store if you feel unsafe.” Bridges said.
While police are looking at security tapes, and are putting extra patrols in the area, law enforcement still needs the help of the community to monitor suspicious activity.
“We always need help from the citizens,” Bridges said. “They should always call us if they feel like something is not right.”
No arrests have been made at this time. Reports indicate the woman’s injuries were not severe.
