Heichelbech volunteered at the Clay-Chalkville Animal Clinic on Old Springville Road in Clay. The Greater Birmingham Humane Society established a fund in Heichelbech’s honor.

According to city officials, her parents, Darrell and Carol, were very excited about the honor the city was bestowing upon their daughter. They were unable to attend the meeting.
