Local products Dial and Aldridge to get a shot in the NFL
With the NFL draft concluded, Clay Chalkville and Hewitt Trussville fans will have the opportunity to follow two of their native sons at the next level.
Clay Chalkville’s Quinton Dial became the 157th overall pick when he was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round. Hewitt Trussville’s Robbie Aldridge was picked up as a free agent by the St Louis Rams as an addition to their training camp roster according to The St Louis Post-Dispatch.
Dial, who signed with the University of Alabama out of high school, began his college career in junior college before transferring to Alabama. As a member of the Crimson Tide’s defensive line rotation, Dial distinguished himself as a hard nosed defender and claimed two national championship rings in his college campaign.
Dial told 49ers.com that he thinks “San Francisco is a great place for me. I’m really excited and blessed to have the opportunity to be on a great team.”
Aldridge began his collegiate career at Indiana State where he logged significant playing time as a true freshman before transferring to Henderson State. In his senior year at the Arkansas school, Aldridge totaled 47 tackles, with 4 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss. He was also named Second Team All-GAC and was a member of the All-GAC Academic Honor Roll.
