The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Heat Advisory for Jefferson County from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday and a Hazardous Weather Outlook warning of storms through central Alabama Thursday afternoon and night.
According to NWS, hot and humid conditions will exist this afternoon south of a cold front. Heat index values will be around 105 degrees generally west of I-65.
Severe thunderstorms will be possible across all of central Alabama this afternoon and this evening as a cold front moves southward across the area. The threats include damaging straight-line winds and large hail.
This severe threat is expected to begin across the northern tier of counties around 3 p.m. and should end across the southern tier of counties around 10 p.m.
The high temperature today is expected to be 94 with a low tonight of 68 degrees.
