Two Clay boys have been charged with burglary and theft for allegedly stealing televisions from the Boys and Girls Club of Central Alabama on Old Springville Road in the Clay-Chalkville area.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Randy Christian said deputies were dispatched to the club at 2380 Old Springville Road on Monday night to investigate a burglar alarm. Someone called dispatchers not long after to tell them two boys were carrying TVs behind Publix on Old Springville Road, walking toward Baggett Drive, Christian said.
Deputies patrolled the area and spotted something suspicious in a driveway on Baggett Drive, Christian said. A deputy shined his flashlight and saw an 11-year-old run to the porch. Two TVs were on the ground, he said.
A 15-year-old in the driveway said the TVs were his, and they were there because they were broken, Christian said. The boy’s mother came to the door and said the TVs didn’t belong to them, Christian said.
The 15-year-old admitted the boys took them from the Boys and Girls Club. Both boys are charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree theft of property. A Boys and Girls Club employee came to the scene and retrieved the stolen TVs, Christian said.
Christian said the point of entry at the Boys and Girls Club was a window.
