Michelle Cook, the 16-year old Hewitt-Trussville student who had been missing since Monday night is home and safe her father Andrew Cook reported Sunday morning.
Someone saw the flier distributed by volunteers on Saturday morning and notified authorities of her location in Birmingham. The man had seen the flier at a north Birmingham gas station. Cook went to meet Birmingham police officers who had located Michelle and released her to him early Sunday morning.
The teenager had been missing since leaving her home sometime after 11 p.m. on Monday night. Trussville and Birmingham police were both involved in the investigation and the effort to locate her.
Saturday morning, about 50 people gathered in the rain at Target on Highway 11 in Trussville. The group took fliers about Michelle and dispersed throughout the metro area to hand them out.
“We’re so grateful to this community and law enforcement in Trussville and Birmingham for all they have done to help get Michelle home,” Andrew Cook said. “Everyone really stepped up and were so supportive. The effort by volunteers on Saturday morning made the difference.”
