TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club has initiated a new program to recognize outstanding achievement in local schools.
The Don Haisten Student of the Month Award will recognize students from the Hewitt-Trussville and Clay-Chalkville schools.
The first recipient was Rebekah Dennis, a junior from Hewitt-Trussville High School. Dennis received a gift card from Jim ‘n Nick’s Bar-B-Q. She received her award at the Nov. 20 club meeting.
Haisten, who died a few years ago after a short illness, was a founding member of the Trussville Rotary Club. Selection of each student of the month will be based on Rotary’s four-way test: is it the truth, is it fair to all concerned, will it build goodwill and better friendships, and will it be beneficial to all concerned?
The club, along with Alabama Barricade, also donated 20 orange cones to Chalkville Elementary School to assist with traffic control.
