TRUSSVILLE — Junior point guard Carter Pharis scored a career-high 23 points to lead Hewitt-Trussville past Carver-Birmingham, 57-52, in the teams’ first Class 6A, Area 12 game Thursday.
Pharis also added four rebounds and five assists.
Senior forward James Huguley scored 12 points for Hewitt-Trussville (9-2, 1-0).
The Hewitt-Trussville varsity girls lost 42-39 to Carver-Birmingham at Bryant Bank Arena. Skylar Reaves led the Lady Huskies (6-4, 0-1) with 10 points. Gabby Hill added nine points for Hewitt-Trussville.
The Pinson Valley girls fell 53-48 at John Carroll in overtime Thursday. Alex Lowery led the Lady Indians (2-6) with 17 points. The Pinson Valley boys defeated John Carroll 62-59. Senior Zach Jackson led the Indians (4-4) with 19 points. Kerry Griffith scored 15 points, Jordan Walker scored nine and Donevan Waldrop chipped in with seven points and five assists.
Hewitt-Trussville’s varsity teams travel to Gardendale on Dec. 13 for an area matchup. Clay-Chalkville’s varsity squads play their first Class 6A, Area 9 games at Pell City today at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Pinson Valley’s varsity teams host Gardendale today at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
