TRUSSVILLE — A Hewitt-Trussville Middle School teacher and her husband have co-authored a children’s book about kids and parents being consumed with technology.
“TJ Put Your Phone Away” was written by Erin Naugher Gilchrist and her husband, Blake Gilchrist, a physical education teacher in Hoover at Riverchase Elementary School. The 20-page book was published by Crest Publishers in Birmingham.
The book focuses on family engagement and has the overall message that it’s time with each other that is most important.
Erin Gilchrist co-authored the book and did the illustrations. Blake Gilchrist took the lead in the book’s content.
Erin Naugher Gilchrist has a Ph.D. in English curriculum and instruction from the University of Alabama. She has been an English, reading, art and creative writing teacher since 2006. Blake Gilchrist has been an elementary school teacher since 2006. He works with grades K-5.
