McEnally’s Mercantile, a hardware, home, garden, grocery, feed and supply store, opened its doors Monday morning in Clay.
Located in the former Piggly Wiggly building on Old Springville Road, the store is inspired by owner Kim Steffey’s grandparents’ farm in Virginia.
“I want to bring back the more wholesome and simpler way of living,” said Steffey, who has her own small farm between Clay and Argo. “Along with many local residents, I hope out-of-state visitors and others in the metropolitan area will enjoy coming to a real old-fashioned Alabama mercantile store.”
The store will also include Cahaba Oaks Cafe, a meat-and-three style restaurant. The cafe will likely open in mid February.
In other business news, Bojangles is expected to open on U.S. Highway 11 in Trussville later this month or in January.
Martie Duncan will speak at the Trussville Rotary Club meeting Wednesday at 7 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn at 3230 Edwards Lake Parkway in Trussville.
Duncan was on Season 8 of “Food Network Star” last year. Representing the state of Alabama, Duncan competed on Alton Brown’s team for her own Food Network show.
She was the only member of the cast who has never been to culinary school or worked in the food industry. Duncan made it to the final four and when America voted for the winner, she finished as the runner-up.
