JEFFERSON COUNTY — Eighteen people have written letters of interest for the open Jefferson County Board of Education seat, which is expected to be filled next year.
The board is replacing Ronald Rhodes, who stepped down Nov. 21. The term of the appointment will end in November 2018.
One person from the area, Rebecca “Bebe” Pitts, of Clay, sent a letter of interest. Other letters of interest came from residents of Lipscomb, Forestdale, Dora, Adamsville, Birmingham, McCalla, Hueytown, Fultondale, Hoover, Irondale, Morris, Pleasant Grove and Mount Olive.
The Jefferson County Schools district covers Chalkville Elementary, Clay Elementary, Clay-Chalkville Middle, Clay-Chalkville High, Johnson Elementary, Pinson Elementary, Rudd Middle and Pinson Valley High schools, among others.
