TRUSSVILLE — Clay-Chalkville on Saturday drilled Vestavia Hills 64-26 to reach today’s finals of the New Year’s Shootout at Hewitt-Trussville High School.
The Lady Cougars (15-3), winners of their last 10 games, face Gadsden City today at 6 p.m. at Bryant Bank Arena for the tournament championship. Clay-Chalkville defeated then-No. 9 Gadsden City 64-59 on Dec. 13.
Against Vestavia Hills on Saturday, junior point guard Kristian Hudson scored 26 points to lead the Lady Cougars. Senior guard Bria Bethea scored 20 points and freshman Raven Omar added nine.
Gadsden City reached the tournament final by defeating host Hewitt-Trussville 62-42 on Saturday. Senior Leigh McAnally led Hewitt-Trussville (10-7) with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Elizabeth Brown scored nine points and senior Morgan McLain chipped in with seven points.
Hewitt-Trussville faces Vestavia Hills today at 3 p.m. in the third-place game.
