MONTGOMERY — Pinson Valley junior running back Nick Gibson has been named the Class 5A Back of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.
The other two finalists were Southside-Gadsden senior running back Dantley Coker and Spanish Fort sophomore quarterback Tyler Johnston.
“Great honor and (I’m) real proud of him,” said Pinson Valley head football coach Matt Glover. “He represented Pinson with class today.”
Gibson has already been named to the ASWA All-State team in Class 5A. Gibson, The Trussville Tribune’s Pinson Valley offensive player of the year, rushed 293 times for 2,205 yards and 27 touchdowns this season. Gibson also caught 25 passes for 266 yards and three scores.
Gibson was widely recognized for two games this season. He rushed for 460 yards and six touchdowns against Mortimer Jordan, and for 369 yards and six more scores against Moody.
