CLAY — The Clay-Chalkville varsity girls basketball team will face Class 6A No. 3 Shades Valley tonight for the Jefferson County Girls Basketball Tournament championship.
Tipoff at Clay-Chalkville High School is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The Lady Cougars (21-5) and the Lady Mounties (21-3) have each reached the tournament finals in big ways. Clay-Chalkville defeated Minor on Tuesday 63-33 and Gardendale on Thursday 57-25 behind 28 points from junior guard Kristian Hudson.
Shades Valley defeated Pinson Valley on Wednesday 46-16 and McAdory on Thursday 70-32. In both games, Shades Valley got out to huge first-quarter leads and cruised. Point guard Morgan William, a Mississippi State signee, leads the way for the Lady Mounties. She had 20 points to go along with nine steals in the win over McAdory.
On the boys side of the tournament, Clay-Chalkville fell 56-55 to Shades Valley on Thursday in the semifinals. Shades Valley will face Minor for the championship today at 7:30 p.m. at Center Point.
Clay-Chalkville (18-8) was led by junior point guard Hasan Abdullah, who scored 17 points. The Cougars face Center Point at 6 p.m. today in the third-place game.
