BIRMINGHAM — Pinson Valley tallied 215.5 points to edge Mortimer Jordan for the Class 5A South Super Sectional wrestling championship over the weekend.
The South Super Sectional was held at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl Multiplex, and the North Super Sectional was held at Birmingham’s CrossPlex Bill Harris Arena.
The top four finishers in Classes 5A and 1A-4A advance from each site. Eight qualifiers in each of 14 weight classes in Class 6A advance to the 59th annual AHSAA State Wrestling Championships at Huntsville’s Von Braun Center Feb. 13-15 from the South and North Super Sectional tournaments.
Hewitt-Trussville posted 212.5 points to finish second to Vestavia Hills (277 points) in the Class 6A North Super Sectional.
Class 6A begins wrestling on Thursday while Classes 5A and 1A-4A get under way on Friday in the state championships. The finals in all championship matches will be held Saturday at the Von Braun Center.
