GADSDEN — The Clay-Chalkville varsity girls basketball team won the Class 6A, Area 9 tournament championship over host Gadsden City on Monday.
The girls defeated No. 9 Gadsden City 61-49.
Junior Kristian Hudson and senior Bria Bethea scored 22 points apiece to lead the Lady Cougars (25-6). Freshman Raven Omar added 14 points.
The win marks the second time this season the Lady Cougars have defeated No. 9 Gadsden City. Gadsden City has also beaten Clay-Chalkville twice.
The Lady Cougars will host Huntsville on Thursday at 6 p.m. in a sub-regional game.
The Clay-Chalkville boys lost to Gadsden City 69-60 in the Class 6A, Area 9 championship game. The boys (22-9) will travel to No. 3 Lee-Huntsville on Friday for a sub-regional matchup.
