Opening Day: First pitches of baseball season Monday

CLAY — Play ball.

The 2014 high school baseball season gets under way Monday for area schools.

Clay-Chalkville hosts Pinson Valley for a doubleheader beginning at noon. Clay-Chalkville last season went 26-10 and was eliminated in the first round of the Class 6A state playoffs.

Pinson Valley posted a 32-14 record and reached the Class 5A state semifinals before losing to eventual state champion Hartselle.

Hewitt-Trussville hosts Grissom at 4 p.m. and faces Hartselle at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Phil English Field. Hewitt-Trussville last season posted a 34-13 record and lost in the Class 6A state championship series to Pelham.
