TRUSSVILLE — The Hewitt-Trussville varsity baseball team ascended three spots in this week’s Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 6A rankings.

The Huskies (22-6) were No. 9 last week and are now No. 6 in Class 6A.

Pelham, last year’s state champion, jumped from No. 5 last week to No. 1 this week. Sparkman is No. 2, followed by Thompson, Opelika and Hoover. Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa is No. 7, followed by Huntsville, Buckhorn and Spain Park. Clay-Chalkville, which was No. 10 two weeks ago and was nominated for top 10 consideration last week, was not nominated this week.

Pinson Valley fell from No. 9 in Class 5A last week to the “others nominated” category this week. The Indians (16-11) are the third team listed, making them No. 13. The top 10 teams in Class 5A, in order, are Spanish Fort, Cullman, Southside-Gadsden, St. Paul’s, Hartselle, Homewood, Muscle Shoals, Mortimer Jordan, Etowah and Rehobeth.

The Hewitt-Trussville varsity softball team was the second team listed in the “others nominated” category in Class 6A for the second consecutive week, essentially meaning the Lady Huskies (20-7) are No. 12.
