PINSON — Pinson Valley senior running back Nick Gibson has made his college choice.
Gibson on Friday pledged to Mississippi State, choosing the Bulldogs over Alabama.
After practice earlier this month, Gibson said he’d likely choose between Mississippi State and Alabama for his college destination.
Gibson also held scholarship offers from Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, Florida State, Louisville, North Carolina State, South Alabama and Jacksonville State.
Gibson, the Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 5A Back of the Year as a junior in 2013, rushed 293 times for 2,205 yards and 27 touchdowns. He also caught 25 passes for 266 yards and three scores.
In his three years of varsity football, Gibson has rushed 496 times for 3,724 yards and 40 touchdowns.
Gibson is one of 11 Alabama high school football players announced earlier this year as a candidate to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 3, 2015. The game will be televised by NBC at noon. The next step for the nominees occurs in September, when the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Tour begins. Player finalists along with U.S. Army All-American Marching Band musicians will be announced nationwide throughout the fall, with the Selection Tour ending in early December.
Clay-Chalkville senior defensive end Kendell Jones is also a Mississippi State commitment.
