CLAY — Clay-Chalkville is in a familiar position.
For the second consecutive season, the Cougars begin ranked No. 2 in Class 6A in the Alabama Sports Writers Association preseason poll.
Spanish Fort was ranked No. 1 in Class 6A, garnering 29 of the 32 first-place votes. Clay-Chalkville earned one first-place vote.
The rest of the top 10 in Class 6A, in order, are Shades Valley, Carver-Montgomery, Opelika, Florence, Daphne, Blount, Muscle Shoals and Bessemer City.
In the first-ever Class 7A poll, Hoover was ranked at the top, followed in order by Bob Jones, McGill-Toolen, Spain Park, Auburn, Central-Phenix City, Foley, Vestavia Hills, Fairhope and Prattville. Notable teams receiving votes for top 10 consideration are Gadsden City, Mountain Brook and Tuscaloosa County.
Hewitt-Trussville and Pinson Valley received no votes for top 10 consideration in the Class 7A and Class 6A polls, respectively.
