BIRMINGHAM — Just after 2:30 p.m. on Friday deputies attempted to stop a silver Hyundai for a traffic violation in the 1900 block of Center Point Road, according to a statement released by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver initially pulled over and appeared to comply with the deputy, however, he soon got out of the car and fled on foot. He was captured after a brief foot chase.
“When he fled, he left a four-year-old girl in the car along with a handgun and 50 bags of heroin,” Chief Deputy Randy Christian said.
According to the statement, the driver of the car, 24-year-old Altrice Darone Ragland of East Lake, has been arrested and charged with trafficking heroin, attempting to elude, resisting arrest, assault, endangering the welfare of a child and carrying a pistol without a license.
