ARGO — The city of Argo last week officially opened its new playground for city residents.
A ribbon cutting was held Thursday morning at 100 Blackjack Road, near Argo City Hall.
The total cost of the new playground was $50,540, including shipping, installation and rubber mulch.
“For playground equipment of this size and quality, that is a great deal,” said Argo City Councilwoman Ann Brown.
The Argo City Council and Mayor Paul Jennings voted to allocate $25,540 for the project. The St. Clair County Commission contributed $15,000 toward the purchase and also loaned the city of Argo the remaining $10,000. The equipment was purchased from Concord-based Hammill Recreation, LLC.
Argo also purchased 12 pallets of sod to finish the area surrounding the playground. Brown thanked the St. Clair County Commission, Bubba Bradley of Bradley Masonry, Corky Massey of Massey Asphalt and Tommy Williams of Williams Orchard for their work in completing the playground. Brown also thanked the 20-plus people that came out to lay the sod and finish the final details.
“Policemen, firemen, moms, dads, children and citizens who don’t even have children came out to lend a helping hand,” Brown said. “This project is complete and ready for Argo’s children to have many hours of fun playing for years to come on the new playground equipment.”
