CLAY — The Clay-Chalkville Middle School eighth grade football team last week defeated Thompson 32-8 at Cougar Stadium for the Metro South Championship.
For the first time in school history, the Cougars posted a perfect 8-0 season record.
Matt Taylor, the team’s first-year head coach, said the team was two points shy of a Metro Championship last year as seventh-graders.
“This year they came out determined to succeed from the start,” Taylor said. “And they didn’t let up, and I wasn’t easy on them either because I know what they were capable of. The coaching staff has put in a lot of time with the boys, and altogether we set a goal for a Metro Championship and we succeeded in our goal. I will always remember this group and I won’t forget my first year as head coach. To God be all the glory.”
The team’s assistant coaches are Bob Adams, John Madrigal, Andrew McLendon, DiAngelo Perry, David Seibert and Chris Tinsley.
