CLAY — The Jefferson County Board of Education last Thursday voted to declare the former Clay Elementary School and Clay City Hall building on Old Springville Road as surplus.
The building is located beside the entrance to the current Clay Elementary School campus.
Jefferson County Schools Director of New Construction Rafael McDaniel said that with Clay City Hall relocating to its current location in 2012, the old building “has become a potential liability due to its age.”
“We are declaring it surplus so we can dispose of it,” McDaniel said in an email. “It can be sold or demolished.”
The building was constructed in the late 1930s and used as a school until the 1990s. It served as Clay City Hall from 2000 to 2012.
