TRUSSVILLE — Former Hewitt-Trussville pitcher Grayson Jones has verbally committed to Auburn.
Jones is expected to sign to be an Auburn Tiger next week, during the early signing period.
Earlier this year, Jones, then a freshman pitcher at Shelton State Community College, was drafted in the 14th round of the MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians. Jones was the 428th overall selection.
As a freshman at Shelton State, Jones started 12 games, compiling a 5-2 record. He pitched 52.1 innings and had a 3.96 earned run average. He struck out 67 batters.
As a senior at Hewitt-Trussville in 2013, Jones went 4-3 with a 3.18 ERA. He had four complete games, two saves and one shutout. He struck out 87 batters in 66 innings.
