TRUSSVILLE — Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Hale told those at Thursday’s Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon that his mission every day is to “make Jefferson County the safest place in the world.”
Hale, speaking to a group of about 80 people, said the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office’s goal is to arrest as many law-breakers as possible, in hopes of crime being “lessened here.”
Hale was recently elected to his fifth consecutive term as sheriff. He’s been in the position since 1998.
“I’ve been blessed to have been elected five times,” he said.
He said his campaign this year totaled about $360,000 “to keep my job.” He said getting his name and values voiced in certain urban areas of the county was a key this year. He said the Trussville and Clay areas, where he calls home, know who he is.
He said Trussville is a powerful city in county elections.
“You’re a player in this county,” he said.
