BIRMINGHAM — The Board of Directors of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame has announced the Class of 2015 for induction into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.
The newly elected inductees are Jay Barker, Chris Gray, Evander Holyfield, Bobby Hunt, Derrick McKey, Tommy Neville, Tony Richardson and Ennis Whatley.
The induction banquet and ceremony will be May 16, 2015 at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel.
Barker, born July 20, 1972 in Trussville, played high school football at Hewitt-Trussville from 1987-1989 and graduated in 1990. He went on to play quarterback at the University of Alabama, winning the national championship over Miami in 1992.?He earned the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award in 1994 and was named to the Academic All-SEC Team the same year.
He played briefly in the NFL for the Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers. He also played for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League and finished his career with the Birmingham Thunderbolts of the XFL.
Barker is now the co-host of The Opening Drive morning sports radio show on WJOX 94.5 FM.
