TRUSSVILLE — Hewitt-Trussville senior safety Deontay Wilson committed to Tennessee Tech University over the weekend.
An official visit served as the final straw for Wilson, who had done his research throughout the recruiting process.
“I knew this was the school for me after doing some research on my own, but my official visit sealed the deal,” Wilson said. “The atmosphere in Cookeville is centered around family and there’s no way I could turn this opportunity up.”
With the commitment, Tennessee Tech adds a physical defender. Wilson made his mark on numerous receivers throughout the 2014 season with vicious strikes.
His departure leaves the Huskies without their third-leading tackler. Wilson wrapped up 93 tackles as a senior in the Hewitt-Trussville secondary. He also had one interception and a fumble recovery that he returned 100 yards for a touchdown at Mountain Brook.
In addition to his physicality, Wilson thinks his ability to be coached will make him a great asset on the Golden Eagles’ roster.
“I believe I can help on the field by being coachable, continuously bettering my skills and just being a great teammate,” Wilson said.
From the classroom to the campus to the football field, Tennessee Tech was just the place for the soon-to-be former Husky.
“The reason I chose the school is because it was the best fit for me education wise as well as in football,” Wilson said.
