PINSON — Soccer season began Monday night for the girls and boys varsity squads from Pinson Valley and Hewitt-Trussville.
A pair of hat tricks from University of Alabama signee Tori Gann and Jenise Edwards propelled Pinson Valley to a 6-1 win over Fultondale in the season opener for the Lady Indians. Pinson Valley took a 4-0 lead before surrendering the only goal of the night off a deflection by the goalkeeper, before Edwards scored the final two goals of the match.
There weren’t nearly as many goals in the boys’ matchup between the two schools, as the game was scoreless at halftime and ended in a 1-1 tie. Fultondale got on the board first thanks to a penalty kick, but a goal from Hector Lucatero in the final minutes saved the draw for the Indians.
Hewitt-Trussville’s girls had little trouble handling visiting Tuscaloosa County, as the Lady Huskies got goals from seven different players on the way to a 10-0 victory.
Walker Coop notched the first of his two goals in the first half, as Hewitt-Trussville jumped out to an early lead and coasted to a 4-0 win over Tuscaloosa County, the first for Pete Dakis as head coach. Stephen Searcy tacked on the other two goals for the Huskies in the second half.
