JEFFERSON COUNTY – The 2015 Jefferson County Baseball Tournament is set to get under way Saturday, and two area programs are in the 12-team field.
Clay-Chalkville (1-1) will serve as one of the four host sites in Saturday’s opening round games. The Cougars welcome Corner at 11 a.m. to kick things off in Pool B. The Cougars will then sit a game out before playing in the day’s final contest against Center Point at 4 p.m.
Pinson Valley (3-1) landed in Pool A, which is on the campus of Gardendale High School. The Indians and the Rockets are set to begin play at 11 a.m., before Pinson Valley head coach Shane Chappell turns his guys around for another game against McAdory immediately following Game 1.
Chappell will then set a lineup for Monday night when Corner pays the Indians a visit. No game time has been set. Pinson Valley started its season with a split doubleheader at Corner on Feb. 18.
Clay-Chalkville is also scheduled to get back in action Monday, when it stays home for a game with Minor. The time of the first pitch is to be determined.
The way teams perform Saturday and Monday will determine where they fall Tuesday, when semifinal games are played along with four alternate contests. Wednesday will serve as a weather make-up day.
Four more alternate games will be played on Thursday. The third place and championship games will be played Friday.
