PINSON — Pinson Valley senior guard Alex Lowery was recently offered basketball scholarships by Wallace State Community College and Snead State Community College.
Lowery committed to Wallace State last week. She will sign April 9 at 1:30 p.m. at Pinson Valley High School.
Lowery led the Lady Indians on the floor last season. According to ncsasports.org, she stands at 5-foot-8 as a shooting guard with the ability to play the point when needed.
Her head coach, Kristan Cromer, always expected big things from Lowery, regardless of the competition.
“Alex is our smartest player,” Cromer said after their loss to Clay-Chalkville in January. “When our backs are against the wall, she’s the one we go to, so there’s nobody else on my team that I would want to guard a player like (Lady Cougars guard Kristian Hudson).”
Hudson has a Louisiana Tech scholarship offer in hand.
Lowery went for nine points and eight rebounds in that particular game, but it was no stretch for her to score 20 or 30 points on a given night as a senior.
On her NCSA recruiting profile, she shares her faith as a Christian, dedication in the classroom and drive on the court.
“My faith will always be first in my life and then school and then, of course, basketball,” wrote Lowery. “I am a leader and always have been.”
Getting an opportunity to take her game to the next level has been an important goal for Lowery.
“I have always dreamed to play basketball in college,” Lowery said. “I will do whatever it takes to make that happen.”
