TRUSSVILLE — The Hewitt-Trussville High School Science Olympiad team recently placed second at the Regional Science Olympiad Tournament in Tuscaloosa.
With the second-place finish, the team advances to the State Science Olympiad Tournament in April.
The team placed in several events at the regional competition.
David Walker took first place in the protein modeling competition. Hillary Mitchell placed second in the “It’s About Time” category. Emma Burford took second in the compound machines category, followed in third place by Eli Greene and Taylor Winship.
Burford and Cerissa Nowell placed first in the experimental design, followed by classmates Kaley Ann Fulton and Tucker Horn, who took second. Kylie Purdy and Damon Purdy placed first in “Write It Do It.”
Travis Gunn and Jonathan Stilwell placed second in air trajectory. Placing second in anatomy/physiology were Walker and Ashton Odom, followed in third place by Kylie Purdy and Fulton. Heidi Mikell and Shelby Austin placed second in the “Green Generation” category.
Walker and Odom took second in “Mission Possible.” Vraj Patel and Logan Cobb finished in second place in “Wright Stuff.” Jeremiah Furlong and Mitti Patel took second in entomology.
In chemistry lab, third place went to Mitchell and Kylie Purdy. In cell biology, third place was awarded to Walker and Cody Beato.
