JEFFERSON COUNTY — Just after 3 a.m. Tuesday deputies were called to a UAB emergency room to investigate a report of a person being shot.
It was reported that a 33-year-old female victim had been brought to the hospital in a private car and died from her injuries before arriving.
Early information indicates that the victim and a friend drove to a location off Highway 269 in western Jefferson County to collect a debt, and the victim was shot by the suspect they were meeting while the victim was still seated in the driver’s side of the vehicle.
The friend in the vehicle fled the scene on foot to avoid being shot, returned after the suspect left and drove the victim to the hospital. The suspect is still at large.
The investigation is ongoing. The name of the victim is withheld pending notification of family.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-1450 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
