BRADENTON, Fla. – Top-ranked Hewitt-Trussville got the IMG Academy National Classic off to a strong start with a 3-2 win over South Hills (Calif.) on Monday.
Center fielder Quin Jackson scored two of the Huskies’ runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh inning. After starting the final frame with a single, Jackson worked his way over to third before freshman Ed Johnson lifted a walk-off sacrifice fly, plating Jackson and securing Hewitt-Trussville in the winners’ bracket.
Sophomore Bradley Huffstutler got the win in his 2 1/3 innings of relief work. He allowed no hits and no runs scored.
Offensively, Jackson and sophomore Grayson Cash led Hewitt-Trussville (15-3). Cash delivered a two-bagger and a stolen base.
The Huskies then beat East Lake (Fla.) High School 3-0 on Tuesday morning.
