JEFFERSON COUNTY — Four members of the Magic City Gun Club Junior Rifle Team have earned invitations to compete in the 2015 National Rifle and Pistol Junior Olympic Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The Magic City Gun Club is the sponsoring organization for the Jefferson County Shooting Sports Club. The team competes under the name “MCGC Kats” and practices air rifle in Trussville once per week.
The event will take place at the USA Olympic Training Center from mid-April through the first week of May. The event is sponsored by USA Shooting, which is the Shooting Sports division of the USA Olympic Committee. This event is by invitation only and shooters must qualify by winning the state championship or by shooting a minimum qualifying score in the state championship.
The competition follows Olympic shooting rules and includes events for air rifle and smallbore (.22). Like the Olympics, ladies and men competitions are separate events and shot at different times. Besides the awards that will be earned, the best shooters will be selected for the Olympic Development Team and someday may represent the U.S. in world championships and the Olympics.
Members attending are Anna Scheer, 14, of Trussville; Ryan McAndrews, 15, of Remlap; Seth Hartbarger, 12, of Hayden; and Tommy Loring, 13, of Gardendale.
