TRUSSVILLE – The Trussville Sports Complex is scheduled to host Home Run Heroes Day on Saturday, May 2.
Trussville native and Miss West Central Alabama, Katie Malone, is pairing with the Trussville Baseball Association for the event, which is expected to last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the baseball fields.
“We’re excited about this partnership and the opportunity to help make a difference in the lives of others,” said the Trussville Baseball Association’s Director of Commissioners Pat Smith. “The Trussville Baseball Association is passionate about teaching our kids more than just how to play baseball, we’re about teaching kids life lessons, and this event is certainly instilling those lessons.”
The event has seen support from Major League Baseball’s Washington Nationals and Texas Rangers. The Birmingham Barons, University of Alabama and Auburn University have also shown support.
Those organizations have provided baseball memorabilia to be placed in a silent auction. There will also be a raffle and a Jim N Nicks gift card on the line.
“The support from the community has been outstanding,” Malone said. “The help we’ve received from Apparel FX, Jim ‘N Nicks, and the Trussville Baseball Association means so much to me. Children’s Miracle Network is an organization that I’m very passionate about, so for all of these businesses, community members, and athletes to be so willing to help make it such a great success is just one of the many reasons I’m so proud to call Trussville my home.”
Saturday will feature many kid-friendly activities, and will benefit Children’s Miracle Network. Proceeds will go to Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham, which is a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.
Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so here: http://www.missamericaforkids.org/Donate/homerunheroes.
Lemonade and cupcakes will be up for sale, along with souvenir cups sponsored by Apparel FX.
“Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals believes that May is for miracles, and I do too,” said Malone. “May is a joyous time for many with graduations, the start of summer vacations, and time to enjoy the outdoors. It just seemed so fitting to combine the fun that comes with this time of year with the opportunity to make a difference for Alabama’s kids.”
