BESSEMER — WBRC reported that seven were injured and 16 families displaced by a large fire in a Bessemer apartment complex.
According to the television station, the fire started at approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday and took two and a half hours to extinguish at the Westlake Apartments off the Bessemer Superhighway. The area was still being monitored for hot spots as late as 4:30 a.m.
All 16 units of the complex were damaged, while one was destroyed by the fire.
The Red Cross and Grace Church Bessemer are assisting the families who have been displaced. Accomodations have been made for the families to stay in a nearby hotel.
