TRUSSVILLE – The Trussville 6U Nationals took the top prize last weekend.
Trussville, coached by Clay Wingard, got the best of a 16-team field, claiming the championship contest with a 15-4 win over Moody on Sunday.
The Nationals also notched a 20-9 victory over local foe Trussville American on the final day of competition.
Wingard along with David Miller, Shea Mitchell, Kyler O’Neill and Pat Pontarelli coached the following roster to the tournament title: Wes Hardy, Kyle Jones, Kaleb Kynard, Will Miller, Hud Mitchell, Riley O’Neill, Jackson Pontarelli, D’ante Seals, Jonah Turner, Colt Wells and Kent Wingard.
That group got tournament play underway with a 12-run decision over Spain Park on Friday night. They turned around to win a pair of games over Vestavia Hills and Mountain Brook on Saturday.
Trussville’s 11-6 win over Mountain Brook was capped off by a double play that went from the glove of pitcher Kent Wingard to first baseman Colt Wells.
