TRUSSVILLE – Disc Golf Birmingham has announced its next tournament, and Trussville’s Greg Carter Memorial Park will host one of the tournament’s three venues.
The Magic City Mega Bowl, scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday, is considered to be the state’s biggest disc golf tournament. Nearly 200 competitors have signed up to play in Trussville, Birmingham’s George Ward Park and Hoover’s Inverness course.
Players from across the Southeast are expected to participate in the two-day event, which is being sponsored by On Tap Sports Café and Good People Brewing Company. Competitors from all skill levels are invited to play.
The tournament is an officially sanctioned Professional Disc Golf Association event. Professionals will be competing for a cash pot of over $4,000, while amateurs will compete for trophies in each skill level.
“Featuring big name local sponsors such as Good People Brewing Company and On Tap Sports Café, this event will be a great way for people who are new to the sport to come out and spectate some of the best players in the game,” read a press release.
Disc Golf Birmingham is a local disc golf club that’s responsible for upkeep, maintenance and tournament support in the Birmingham area.
Disc golf, which was birthed in the 1970’s, is one of the world’s fastest growing sports, and is played much like traditional golf. However, the sport is played without balls or clubs.
Competitors throw a disc toward a designated target. Each throw counts as a stroke. Like traditional golf, the player with the lowest shot total wins.
