CLAY –It isn’t a normal procedure for an elite group of law enforcement officials to assist on a routine traffic stop. But since they happen to be in the neighborhood anyway, they did and that’s when things went south for the vehicle occupants.
The traffic stop on Chalkville Road in Clay led to a drug bust on Friday when officers found drugs in the vehicle.
“It was a stop for a traffic violation,” Jefferson County sergeant Jack Self said. “However, the occupants of the car were in possession of meth and heroin. It was just unfortunate for them that members of our SWAT team had just finished a detail in the area when the stop was made and they dropped in to assist.”
Self said the occupants of the vehicle were arrested and are currently in the Jefferson County Jail. The names will be released after officials have a chance to review the deputies’ reports.
