From staff reports
CLAY – The Clay Historical Society and Clay United Methodist Church will host a yard sale on Saturday, July 25, 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. in the Church Fellowship Hall. Proceeds will go toward the purchase of a historical marker recognizing the Clay United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Early church connections came from Cedar Mt., established as a Methodist church in 1819, and Shiloh Church and School started in 1826, which became Clay Methodist. The first cemetery plot was dug in 1881, and the fieldstone church was built in 1924. Other church highlights include:
- Clay Methodist was instrumental in helping the victims of Clay’s storm on January 23, 2012.
- Many members of the community have come to know this church for the “Food Pantry” which helps local citizens in need.
- Clay United Methodist Church has been the “Heart of the Community” going back many years even before the establishment of the city of Clay.
