Trussville City Council met Tuesday night, and awarded a paving contract to Massey Paving for Creekside Way in the amount of $47,435. The road is in dire need of repair, and the council declared it an emergency at a previous meeting.
The council also approved a proclaimation to make the annual Fall Carnival a city-wide event from Oct 11 until Oct 18 at Magnolia Park.
“This event is normally well-attended and a lot of fun,” Councilman Brian Plant said. “Make it a point to go out there, especially if you have young children.”
Mayor Gene Melton also appointed Herb McBride to the Trussville Planning and Zoning Board until June 11, 2020. McBride once worked with the BJCC Board as well.
“Herb will be a great help to the city,” Melton said. “He’s helped us in the past when he worked with Jefferson County on projects that were close to our city.”
The mayor was authorized to rent part of the Goldkist property, up to 20,000 sq. feet for up to $1,000 per month on a month-to-month contract at no cost to the city.
In the near future, the city court room and council chambers will be a little brighter. The council approved an expense to replace the current lighting in the room to LED lights. The bid was awarded to Gabriel Electric for $9,575.
Dunn Construction was paid $205,975.05 for work on Poplar Street.
Trussville will host its 3rd annual National Night Out on Oct. 6 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Target Shopping Center parking lot.
