The annual benefit motorcycle ride to help the Burkett Center will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, beginning at Rider’s Harley Davidson, located at 4750 Norrel Dr., Trussville.
Each year, the ride raises money for the special needs school located in Morris.
The event is scheduled to begin with registration at 9 a.m. and will be open for an hour with kickstands up at 10:15 a.m. The cost to participate is $30 per bike and only an additional $5 for a second rider. The cost includes lunch, and coffee and donuts will be available during registration.
Door prizes will be given away, including $500 cash and a $500 gift card to Jeff Dennis Jewelers.
The proceeds are to benefit the Burkett Center, a division of the Jefferson County schools system that helps educate sprcial needs children with multiple disablilties from ages 3 to 21. The school currently serves around 50 students yearly with very little financial support.
Donna Leemon of C.H.R.O.M.E. Cross Cruisers, the orgranizers of the event, said she and her club were very excited to continue to help with the fund raiser.
“This is one of their big fund raisers,” she said. “We love to help them and the community each year.”
The ride had averaged around 75 bikes over the years, but Leemon said they are hoping for closer to 100 this year.
The center provides services such as self-help skills, occupational therapy, speech therapy and academic help.
The event is rain or shine, and students from the center are expected to be on hand once bikes arrive at the center. The Burkett Center will also be open to visitors who would like to tour the facility.
