BLOUNT COUNTY — Richard Minard Clark, 40, of Altoona is currently being held in the Blount County jail after the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Aviation Unit and Tactical Team responded to a request for assistance from the Blount County sheriff’s office regarding an armed, barricaded suspect in Altoona, according to a press release.
At approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 6, the two law enforcement agencies worked together to detain the suspect.
“Using their specialized skillsets, ALEA’s Aviation Unit and Tactical Team, were able to assess and resolve a highly volatile and dangerous situation in Blount County involving an armed suspect who had barricaded himself inside a shed on his property and repeatedly fired his weapon at law enforcement officers,” Secretary of Law Enforcement Spencer Collier said in a release. “Almost daily, we receive requests from county and municipal law enforcement agencies for assistance by our specialized teams. ALEA provides an invaluable resource to county and municipal law enforcement agencies throughout the state with law enforcement support services including aviation and tactical team assistance.”
