JEFFERSON COUNTY — A Hewitt-Trussville High School student was critically injured last night following a car crash on U.S. 78 near Dugan Avenue according to Jefferson County Chief Deputy Randy Christian. The wreck happened around 8 p.m. last night when two cars — a Suzuki and a Honda — struck one another.
Both cars came to a rest in the traffic lanes, and two 17-year-old girls got out of their vehicles to check the damage to each car when a Lexus, being driven by a 64-year-old male, came upon the accident and swerved to miss the vehicles and struck both girls.
Both girls were critically injured and taken to UAB hospital. One of the girls is from Trussville and the other from Forestdale according to the sheriff’s office. Names and details are not being released at this time.
The adult driver of the Honda was also injured, and was transported to the hospital. A 15-year-old passenger and an adult passenger, along with the driver of the Lexus were not injured. Both accidents are still under investigation.
