CLAY — The Clay City Council will be weighing a lot of options over the next few weeks regarding one local business Real Cutz, a barber shop on Old Springville Road.
Two weeks ago a shot was fired at a clay business. Now, city manager Ronnie Dixon is suggesting the council consider holding a hearing regarding their business license.
On Sept. 21, a man identified only as “Coach,” allegedly an employee at Real Cutz barber shop, fired a shot at the ground in the parking lot. The sound caused Clay City Hall – located across the street – to go into high alert.
According to Dixon this is not the only incident the council has had with the company. When business licenses came due the owner filed “inactive” to avoid paying the fee, but continued to do business within sight of the mayor’s office window.
“When we replied, ‘We know you’re in business, we can see you,’ they went ahead and filled out their application,” Dixon said.
According to Dixon there is also suspected vice activity on the premises as well, but he does not know if arrests have been made. Before making decisions he wants all parties to be able to have a fair say.
“The only reason I’m bringing it up is citizen comments,” Dixon said. “We might want to try to act on it and have a hearing to maybe get both sides of the story.”
Mayor Charles Webster asked for more details from the Sheriff’s office regarding possible activities at that location before any decisions are made regarding a hearing.
