From staff reports
CENTER POINT – The Clay-Chalkville girls will host the Class 6A, Area 12 basketball tournament.
Head coach Justin Haynie called heads in the coin flip between the Cougars and Center Point, and he was correct.
With the result, Clay-Chalkville will host the boys and girls tournaments, since the boys team won Area 12 outright. The tournaments will take place Feb. 10 and Feb. 12.
On the 10th, the No. 2 Center Point and No. 3 Pinson Valley girls teams face off at 5 p.m., followed by the same boys teams at 6:30 p.m.
The winner of each game will take on top-seeded Clay-Chalkville on the 12th. The girls championship game will tip at 6 p.m., followed by the boys title game at 7:30 p.m.
Both Cougar basketball teams have clinched de facto playoff berths, due to the layout of the three-team area. Both participants in the area tournament championship games advance to the first round of the postseason, and Clay-Chalkville has already sealed a spot in those area title games.
The All-Area teams were also announced on Friday morning.
