BIRMINGHAM –Friday night brought widespread violence as Birmingham police investigated three separate shootings in a matter of hours across the city, according to multiple media reports.
The shootings began around 8 p.m. at the 4100 block of 31st Street North where the male victim was critically wounded. The victim was taken to the hospital and police are still searching for the shooter who had fled the scene before officers arrived, ABC 33/40 reported.
Less than two hours later, BPD responded to a second shooting at the 900 block of 47th Street North where they found a man fatally shot at an apartment complex.
Officers found the victim, Jamie Moore, 22 of Birmingham, lying inside the stair case suffering from a gunshot wound to the body. The victim was pronounced deceased by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots in the street. But there are currently no eye witnesses to the murder.
“It is a challenging time for law enforcement when crowds of people stand by and refuse to get involved,” Birmingham police Lt. Sean Edwards said. “A life taken should mean something to somebody and must never be accepted as the norm”.
Then, around 11:30 p.m., police were called to 1754 Pearson Avenue where they found a man shot in the head with life threatening injuries in the backyard of the residence.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim, Kendrick Smith, 27 of Birmingham, lying on the ground in the back of a residence suffering from a gunshot wound to the body. The victim was transported to UAB hospital where he later died from his injury.
A witness inside of the residence reported hearing several gunshots from the back of the residence and later found the victim. Another witness stated he saw a figure in all black running down the alley.
“We are committed to solve every homicide that happens in our city,” Edwards said.
There have been no arrests announced in any of the shootings at this time and all three incidents remain under investigation.
